At only 270 grams, MCG is probably the lightest cobot gripper in the world. This is made possible by its components produced by high-quality, lightweight 3-D printing. The combination of pump unit with integrated COAX® vacuum ejector technology and separate grippers allows maximum flexibility. This is further increased by the new Quick-Click-Toolchanger (QCT), which allows customers  to chang from one gripper type to another in seconds without any tools. MCG lifts up to 5 kg.

In this application, a pick-and-place solution was tested for a customer using an igus linear robot, a camera, and a conveyor belt. The individual components had to communicate seamlessly to ensure the metal part could be reliably picked up from the conveyor belt and accurately sorted. The integration of the camera for detecting and positioning the metal part, along with the precise control of the linear robot, played a crucial role in ensuring the system’s high reliability and efficiency.

In this specific customer application, a cost-effective solution for loading and unloading a laser engraving machine was sought and successfully implemented. The igus ReBeL robot takes on the task of picking up the parts to be engraved and precisely placing them into the machine. Subsequently, a linear system equipped with a laser engraving head carries out the engraving process. Once the engraving is complete, the robot removes the processed part from the machine and places it for further processing or packaging.

Thanks to the low cost of the cobot, the investment in this automated solution pays off in a very short time, making it particularly attractive for companies looking to reduce their production costs while simultaneously increasing efficiency.

In this video, we present an advanced solution for downstream sprue separation of clip bearings in injection molding production. The application utilizes a Delta robot system, IRC, rotary conveyor, an igus vacuum gripper with rotation unit, and a Zimmer gripper to optimize the process and increase efficiency.

The setup of the Delta robot and the integration of the IRC are shown, as well as the operation of the rotary conveyor and the camera for precise detection and separation of sprues. The igus vacuum gripper with rotation unit is demonstrated in action, handling the clip bearings safely and efficiently. The Zimmer gripper complements the process with its precise gripping technique. The entire system operates smoothly and efficiently thanks to reliable power and data transmission.

The benefits of this solution include increased production speed, reduced scrap, and improved workplace safety. Additionally, a low footprint is ensured, facilitating integration into various production environments.

The seamless integration of the insertion system into the existing injection molding machine will then be demonstrated, including the communication interfaces and control logic.

Automated packaging of spices with igus gantry robot

In this application for a customer in the food industry, spices needed to be transferred from a tray into a carton. The challenge was the high precision required due to the tight tolerances. However, this was easily overcome with an igus gantry robot and a flow gripper. The gantry robot enabled precise and repeatable positioning of the spices, while the flow gripper ensured gentle handling of the delicate products. By combining these technologies, an efficient and reliable solution was achieved for the customer, significantly enhancing both product quality and production speed.

In this specific customer application, the challenge was to implement two different applications within a single system. This was a complex task that required both technical expertise and innovative solutions. In the first step of the process, it was necessary to use a dosing unit to apply adhesive to the component.

This step required precision and accuracy to ensure that the adhesive was applied evenly and in the right amount. It was important that this process was carried out correctly to ensure optimal adhesion between the components. After the adhesive was applied, the same robot was then supposed to pick up the workpiece to be glued with a special Cobot pump.

This step required careful handling and positioning of the workpiece to ensure that it was correctly aligned and prepared for the gluing process. Finally, the robot was supposed to glue the workpiece with the other component. This final step was crucial to ensure a strong and durable connection between the two components. It was important that the robot was able to deliver the exact pressure and alignment required for successful bonding.

Overall, this customer application was a challenging task that required careful planning, precise execution, and innovative solutions. Despite the challenges, the result was a successfully implemented system capable of efficiently and effectively realizing two different applications.
